How to Volunteer

At Fairmont, every parent is automatically part of the FPA — no dues, no forms, just community. There are a few different ways to get more directly involved.

General volunteering

Not looking for a specific role — just want to help with events, fundraising, hospitality, or whatever's needed? Fill out the Volunteer Interest Form and the board will follow up with opportunities that match what you're looking for.

Event sign-ups

Many FPA events have specific volunteer slots — setup, staffing a table, bringing supplies, and more. Check the events calendar: any event that needs volunteers has a "Sign up to volunteer" button on its page, linking to a SignUpGenius sign-up.

For the Fall Book Fair (September 8–11), use the dedicated Book Fair Volunteer Sign-Up form to pick your shift(s).

Room parents

Room parents help coordinate classroom celebrations and communication between teachers and families throughout the year — one per classroom, selected by lottery if more than one parent signs up. Fill out the Room Parent Interest Form to enter for your child's classroom. Room parents are announced at the first FPA general meeting of the school year — see the events calendar for the date, or the Monthly Meetings page for that meeting's deck if you missed it.

Live Scan fingerprinting

Volunteering with students — room parents especially — means clearing a one-time Live Scan fingerprint background check first. Fairmont pre-fills most of the state form, so it comes down to one appointment and about fifteen minutes. The Live Scan page has the pre-filled form to download, where to go, what to bring, what it actually costs, and what to send back when you're done.

General meetings

FPA general meetings are open to every parent — a chance to hear what's planned, ask questions, and volunteer for what interests you. See Monthly Meetings for each month's deck and Events for the next one.
