Room Parent Interest Form
Thank you for showing interest in becoming a Room Parent! The main responsibility of a Fairmont Parent Association Room Parent is helping to coordinate your classroom's events, parties, activities, and more.
We require one (1) Room Parent per classroom. A drawing will be held if more than one parent signs up for a given classroom — parents who were not a Room Parent the previous year take priority, so every family gets a fair chance to participate. Room Parents will be announced at the first FPA meeting of the school year.

What does a Room Parent do?
- Serves as a liaison between your child's teacher, the classroom, and the FPA.
- Coordinates and works with the other grade-level room parents for classroom parties and activities to keep things fair across the grade.
- Attends an orientation meeting to review the Room Parent role with the Campus Director and FPA Board.
- Attends FPA general parent meetings each month.
- Completes a Live Scan fingerprint background check before working with students — step-by-step instructions and the pre-filled form are below.
Eligibility & selection process
Room Parent positions are open to any parent or guardian with a student enrolled at Fairmont SJC, including school employees. FPA Board members are not eligible to volunteer for this position.
- Room parents are selected using a lottery-type system — if a classroom has more than one interested parent, the FPA Vice President draws a name from that classroom's entries.
- If a parent was Room Parent the prior school year, their form is set aside unless no other parent for that classroom is interested.
- Only one Room Parent Interest Form may be submitted per family.
- The parent named on the selected form must fulfill the role — it cannot be handed off to a spouse. If they can't fulfill it, the FPA will re-run the selection for that classroom.
- A parent cannot be Room Parent for more than one classroom in the same year.
Live Scan fingerprint background check
Every Room Parent clears a Live Scan fingerprint background check before working with students. It's one appointment, about fifteen minutes — your fingerprints are scanned electronically and the results go from the California Department of Justice straight to Fairmont. The FPA never sees them.
Fairmont has already filled in the school's half of the state form, so you only complete the applicant section, and the school's billing number on the form means you pay the operator's rolling fee and nothing else.
